March 12, 2010 Crooked Still: Crooked Still at the Peterborough Players Theatre
Time: 8pm
Town: Peterborough
[More Information]
Still Crooked is an ensemble effort of inspired music making that moves the group's' impossible to pigeonhole style in new directions while honoring their folk roots.
Crooked Still's genre-bending sound is the combination of five distinctive talents (a fiddler, cellist, lead vocalist, bass guitar and lead guitar), who are not content to limit themselves to any one project or style of music. Each individual contribution is enriched by the multidimensionality of their creative wellspring. Together, they have uncovered new facets of brilliance on Still Crooked. The genesis of the group continues to evolve. Much like moonshine distilled in the apparatus that inspired their name, Crooked Still is still fermenting. And the music on Still Crooked is undeniably intoxicating.

March 20, 2010 A Folkway Coffee House Concert:
This will also be a time for former Folkway staff and customers to share stories in remembrance.
Time: 6-10pm
Town: Peterborough
[More Information]
Since the 1950s coffee houses have served as small venues where folk performers could play their music in an atmosphere of quiet and respect for the musicians and the messages in their songs. When The Folkway first opened in February 1975 it was a "Coffee House" in the best sense of that tradition. The first acts were local guitarists and singers who performed for the love of the music. People came to listen for the same reason and the Folkway soon became known for it's very respectful and attentive audiences.
We wish to repeat this experience with a long evening that features many of those local musicians who both helped to establish the Folkway and carried it on with their talents. These were typically people with other jobs whose love for the music brought them to the stage at the Folkway. We hope to get many of those once familiar names back in town to our stage.

March 20, 2010 Maxine Kumin Book Signing: Maxine Kumin is rescheduled to sign her new book for children." What Color Is Caesar"
Time: 11am
Town: Peterborough
[More Information]
The former Poet Laureate of the United States and New Hampshire resident will be in to sign and discuss her new picture book for children.
Caesar is a large white dog with a great many black spots. Or is he a large black dog with even more white spots? That’s the trouble: he doesn’t know which, and though nobody in the family seems to care, he won’t rest until he uncovers the truth. So off he traipses, beseeching one animal after another to find out what color he is, basically. From celebrated poet Maxine Kumin comes a doggedly quizzical hero, brought comically to life by Alison Friend’s expressive watercolors — a lovable picture-book character who ultimately learns that it’s not what's on the outside that counts.
Maxine Kumin is the author of many books of poetry including a forthcoming collection "Where I Live: New And Selected Poems 1990-2010" due in April.

April 10, 2010 Ellis Paul with Antje Duvecot: Ellis Paul with special guest Antje Duvecot at Peterborough Players Theatre
Time: 8pm
Town: Peterborough
[More Information]
Ellis Paul is one of the leading voices in American songwriting. He was a principle leader in the wave of singer/songwriters that emerged from the Boston folk scene, creating a movement that revitalized the national acoustic circuit with an urban, literate, folk pop style that helped renew interest in the genre in the 1990's.
His charismatic, personally authentic performance style has influenced a generation of artists away from the artifice of pop, and closer towards the realness of folk.
Singer songwriter Ellis Paul says "Antje is the rare artist that can write about the social and the personal in the same breath. She is as understated as she is wise and her songs go down mentally as well as soulfully. Her voice has a sound of innocence and naivety which makes razor sharp insights into the human condition."

Time: 6:30 dinner, 8pm show
Town: Peterborough
[More Information]
This is the closest thing to a real Folkway evening that we are able to assemble in Bass Hall! A buffet style dinner will be served for up to 60 guests. Desert, wine and other beverages will be included.
The menu will be made up of actual Folkway favorite dishes. Many of the Servers will be the actual waiters and waitresses who actually worked at the Folkway--some from the late 1970s!!
Who can forget the finger picking pyrotechnics of Guy van Duser? He and clarinetist (and pennywhistler) Billy Novick were often at the Folkway, entertaining everyone with a broad blend of musical styles, from fiddle tunes, to jazz classics, and even Sousa marches.
We will be selling only 60 concert only tickets for this event. Concert only goers will be seated where they fit among the dinner tables and along the walls--just like during the days of the Folkway! Sorry, we don't have a staircase to sit on!
Folkway Historic Dinner and Concert cost is $50. Guests should arrive at 6:30.

Time: 7pm
Town: Peterborough
[More Information]
Kim Wallach, who now makes her home the Monadnock Region, is a veteran of the 70’s folk scene in Harvard Square.
Both as a soloist and a as one-third of the Short Sisters, Wallach seems to keep in mind the power of music, particularly folk music, to heal, whether that healing comes in the form of fostering hope, a sense of strength and resolve in the face of injustice, or simply the ability to laugh and take comfort from the that laughter.
For over thirty five years Bill Staines has traveled back and forth across North America, singing his songs and delighting audiences at festivals, folk song societies, colleges, concerts, clubs and coffee houses.
A New England native, Bill became involved with the Boston-Cambridge folk scene in the early 1960’s. He weaves a magical blend of wit and gentle humor into his performances. As one reviewer wrote, “He has a sense of timing to match that of the best stand-up comic.”
